Job Scope
The Commodity Manager will collaborate with and lead a cross functional team to develop and implement a commodity strategy capable of meeting all cost, quality and delivery targets set forth. In addition the Commodity Manager will be accountable in supporting operations as a point of escalation to resolve all cost, quality, delivery and capacity activities of suppliers in said commodity. Lastly, he/she will be responsible to ensure the supply base adheres to the commodity strategy and negotiates and implements contracts to ensure supplier compliance and performance.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilties

  • Designs, develops and communicates the purchasing commodity and supplier strategies under their responsibility and drives the implementation through global organization (global responsibility).
  • Works closely with planning, manufacturing, quality, engineering, and research & development to design and implement strategic sourcing strategies
  • Masters assigned commodity in terms of cost model, benchmarks, market trends, LCC options, product technical roadmaps, and target costing.
  • Manages & fosters relationships with the supply base and drives resolution to systematic supply chain issues impacting quality, delivery, cost or lead-time
  • Negotiates and manages agreements with suppliers that provide the structure for all business relationships between Luminex and the supply base
  • Drives resolution to systemic supply chain issues through contracts and long term agreement negotiations
  • Monitors supplier capacity and capability to ensure the forecast can be met and ensures continuity of supply to the factory and customer
  • Defines, conducts and manages Supplier Panel Business Risk analysis.
  • Manages the performance of the Supplier Panel of his/her commodities and performs regular Supplier Performance reviews (includes also the follow up of corrective action plans and continuous improvement plans).
  • Prepares and leads negotiations with suppliers on yearly Cost, Quality and Delivery targets set forth and monitored.
  • Develops and presents cost reduction opportunities for evaluation and execution including mobilizing relevant resources to capture and implement supplier innovation and improvement opportunities.
  • First level escalation contact for any supply chain issues originating from his/her supply base -

Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree Business, Engineering, Science, or equivalent
  • 5+ Years Experience in commodity management, procurement, contracts, manufacturing, or logistics
  • 5+ Years Experience in Procurement and/or strategic sourcing
  • 5+ Years Experience across a broad range of commodities including electronics, sheet metal, machined parts, plastics, OEM, chemicals, and biologics.
  • 5+ Years Experience working independently in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities
  • 2+ Years Experience in managing procurement professionals preferred

Training and Skills

  • Proven negotiation skills (High proficiency)
  • Experience using an ERP system in a manufacturing environment (Oracle E-Business Suite preferred) (High proficiency)
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word (High proficiency)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (High proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred
  • CPM - Certification By The Institute For Supply Management preferred
  • Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM)-APICS preferred

Travel Requirements

  • 20% Travel may be required
