Job Scope:

The Facilities Manager provides mechanical and electrical oversight of systems used in manufacturing, research, development and commercial operations. This position provides support and guidance to facility personnel, engineers, and scientists to ensure that facility and equipment capacity is available, and that facility and equipment performance does not constrain utilization. Additionally, proactively leads facilities and equipment improvement and upgrades projects as required by internal customer groups.

 

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Management: 
    • Lead and/or provide guidance for the planning and execution of facilities and equipment projects.
    • Provide support for the Facilities Team.
    • Manage activities leading to the successful execution of assigned projects. Control project scope, schedule and budget relative to the established baseline. Coordinate contractors and subcontractors required to complete complex facility modifications, additions, and remodel work in an optimal and cost effective manner.
    • Develop and review specifications, bids, and drawings for proposals encompassing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, fire / life safety, interior and exterior construction.
    • Communicate and collaborate across functional and leadership teams to inform project status and risks, elevate issues, present recommendations, and implement modifications or project plans.
    • Create and maintain a productive environment to enable the delivery of various facility services. Empower and oversee the team to carry out operational responsibilities and work directly with team to carry out objectives.
    • Implement strategies to optimize cost and service levels related to utilities, plant maintenance, grounds management, janitorial, vendor management, expense management, and infrastructure project management.
    • Work with EHS to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and maintain a safe work environment at the sites. Perform work in a safe manner consistent with DiaSorin’s health, safety and environmental policies and assume responsibility for personal safety and that of co-workers to result in a safe work environment for all employees and the protection of the environment and the community at large.
    • Ensure regulatory compliance is met according to FDA Good Manufacturing Practices as it relates to buildings, systems and utilities.
    • Evaluate and develop skills of the facilities team members and ensure cross-training to maximize functionality.
  • Manufacturing Equipment Controls:
    • Ensure that facilities and manufacturing equipment complies with life cycle expectations, from requirements development through asset induction, use and retirement.
    • Provide front line support for troubleshooting and resolving functional and performance problems with manufacturing equipment.
    • Ensure non-routine maintenance of manufacturing equipment is investigated, completed and documented.
    • Work with system owners to define and schedule routine preventive maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
    • Ensure that new and revised equipment is appropriately qualified by writing and executing IQ, OQ and PQ protocols.
    • Oversee routine maintenance of critical systems such as DI water systems, lyophilizers, compressed air, fume hoods, HEPA filters, dry room, cold rooms and any other critical system maintenance.
    • Lead investigations into out-of-tolerance conditions on these systems and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Buildings/Equipment/Grounds (30%)
    • Solicit and review contracts and bids for grounds keeping, general and specialty cleaning, pest control, snow removal, solid waste disposal, elevator, and security monitoring services.
    • Coordinate outside services as needed for construction, maintenance, and repair.
    • Assist with construction and renovation related to facility expansion, design and modification. Assure all systems are operational after build-outs are completed and perform room qualifications.
    • Provide support 24/7 in event of a facility and/or equipment emergency.

 

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree in Engineering or Technology or 2 year Technical Degree in areas of refrigeration, electrical, electronic, or electro-mechanical technologies required
  • 5+ Years of related work experience with demonstrated increasing responsibility in medical device or pharmaceutical related industries required
  • 3+ Years of experience providing work direction and leadership required
  • Project Management experience in GMP industries (Pharma/Biotech/Medical Device) required

 

Training and Skills

  • Great team building skills - ability to lead cross functional teams
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Knowledge of Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • Building automation systems and data acquisition systems
  • Security, maintenance operations, administrative services, contract management, janitorial and grounds maintenance
  • Safe operations of both hot water and steam boilers
  • Direct Digital Control (DDC) and Data Acquisition (DAS) system operations
  • Basic Programmable Logic Control (PLC) system operations
  • Facilities maintenance, safety standards, piping and electrical standards and other fundamental industrial and mechanical standards
  • Ability to present in front of groups
  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge in at least 2 of the following physical plant support systems: HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, air and fire systems
  • Demonstrated business acumen
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft (Excel, PPT and Project) and AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with Google Suite

 

Licenses and Certifications

  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State required and
  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM ) preferred 

 

Travel Requirements

  • Travel: Approximately 30%
